Personal Finance Workshops

Banking Basics

In this workshop, participants will learn how they can work with financial institutions to help them manage their personal finances, grow their wealth, and safeguard their money. They will learn about the variety of account types available for their needs and receive a primer on how to open a simple account.

Budgeting

In this workshop, participants will understand the value of creating a budget, and learn strategies to build a simple budget and pay off debt. They will also learn some core habits to practice and maintain financial health.

Buying a Car

Participants will learn about the costs of car ownership, outside of a monthly car payment, to distinguish between the listed price and the actual price of a vehicle. They will also learn to determine how much they can budget toward a car payment and discuss different payment options to decide which is right for them. Finally, participants will demonstrate how to evaluate a loan and apply what they’ve learned to “shopping around” and contract negotiations.

Credit Scores & Reports

In this workshop, participants will learn what a credit score is, its importance, and how to read a credit report. They’ll also learn the tools to maintain a healthy credit score and repair bad credit.

Debt Management

Participants will explore common reasons why people find themselves in debt and the most common types of debt. They will also describe the value of using debt management strategies such as loan consolidation, budgeting, and debt management plans. Finally, participants will compare various debt management solutions and create a personal plan about how to manage their debt.

Family Planning for Higher Education Costs

This workshop is designed to help families navigate the complexities of planning for higher education costs. Participants will gain valuable insights into savings strategies, financial aid options, and the importance of early planning to ensure they can provide a solid educational foundation for their children's future.

Identity Theft

In this workshop, participants will learn about the methods used by identity thieves to steal personal information and how to protect themselves. They will also understand what information is at risk and red flags to watch out of for with regard to common scams.

Investing at Work

In this workshop, participants will learn to apply best practices for investing in employer-sponsored accounts, as well as learn to understand the advantages and disadvantages of various investment options. In addition, participants will learn how to compare the returns and fees of different investment options and how to implement investing strategies across their portfolio.

Making Budgets Work

Participants will identify personal obstacles to budgeting and create and apply a structure to track and analyze spending. They will also list short, medium, and long-term goals and discuss the importance of debt reduction and building emergency savings. Ultimately, participants will learn to apply strategies to manage day-to-day spending.

Participants will explore various ways to use mobile banking services and how to use mobile banking in a safe and secure manner. They will also be able to identify the pros and cons of performing different services using mobile banking vs branch banking.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to understand what a financial emergency is, how to prepare for it, and the importance of having an emergency savings plan. Participants will also learn about tools and resources to develop and implement an emergency savings strategy. Lastly participants will develop skills to protect themselves during times of financial emergency or uncertainty.

In this workshop, participants will begin to prepare for retirement readiness by creating a savings plan and learning about investment vehicles that may allow them to grow their wealth. They will also set financial goals and lean how to manage them.

Developing a Business Plan

In this workshop, business owners will learn the eight parts of a business plan and what to consider when writing a business plan. At the end of the workshop, business owners will have a blueprint or first draft of a business plan.

How Businesses Obtain Credit

In this workshop, business owners will learn the value of creditworthiness and how to maintain a good business credit score. They’ll also discover the documents necessary to make a successful application for a business loan.

How Businesses Use Credit

In this workshop, business owners will learn the types of credit available to a small business owner such as lines of credit, credit cards and term loans, as well financing options from the Small Business Administration.

Small Business Banking Services

In this workshop, business owners will learn about the variety of banking services and products available especially for small businesses.
